Outdoor installation

When installing the QX-C300 Series wireless LAN access point outdoors, please refer to the following installation examples. (For more information, please see User's Manual and Quick Installation Manual.)


●Installation in a place exposed to direct sunlight


After connecting cables, take appropriate waterproofing measures.
When installing with the access point facing downward in a place that exposes the back to direct sunlight, attach a sunshade (non-metal) to the back.
Make sure that heat from the sunshade is not conducted to the access point and to a mounting plate fixed with the access point.

≪Installation precautions≫

The products other than Sharp genuine optional products are to follow the manufacturer’s or the dealer’s warranty.
Sharp’s warranty does not cover either the malfunctions attributed to installation methods, nor defects of products which are attached to / connected to access points.
Do not paint access points and antennas. Paint materials may affect signal conditions, make the products fragile, or deteriorate heat radiation performance, which may result in malfunctions. (Sharp’s warranty does not cover such malfunction as caused by painting.)


Set an arrster for antenna between an external antenna and the access point. According to Radio Act (in Japan), the total loss should be 0 to 6db at 5.3GHz bandwidth (W53) and at 5.6GHz bandwidth (W56). Please use the access point in accordance with local regulations and/or local requirements in your country. Do not attach any other parts, as doing so may violate Radio Act.

Solar shield:

It is recommended to attach a solar shield when the front of the unit (the side with the SHARP logo) is exposed to direct sunlight.

≪Installing an outdoor power source≫

Prepare and use an outdoor-use power source unit, when installing access points outdoors.

  • Works to install and build outdoor power source units must be done by certified electricians. Ask such certified electricians to do installation works.
  • DC power input of QX-C300 series is DC12V / 4A or more.
  • Select a water-proof type power source which meets the specification of output rating of AC-DC power source.
  • Set in a weatherproof and waterproof box, as shown below, AC-DC power source unit, an earth leakage circuit breaker, low-voltage arrester, and low-voltage current-limiting fuse.

Prevention of electrolytic corrosion of main unit mounting plate and mounting spacer

The material of the parts mentioned below is SUS304.
It is recommended to use stainless-steel screws and materials which connect the parts mentioned below or to which the parts mentioned below are connected. (Special attention will be required especially when access points are installed outdoors where rains drop.)

  • Set an access point in a weatherable enclosure, when installing an access point in a place exposed to salty wind (such as coasts) or in a place exposed to corrosive gas (such as hot spring areas).
Installation in

  • Set an access point in a weathable enclosure with a heater, when installing an access point in a place below -20ºC of temperature.


≪Installation of access point near the coast≫

Please see the following guideline/standards for salt damage countermeasures in case of installing access points near the coast.
* Please consult with a local installation company for the details.

Standard for salt damage countermeasures


1. Please do not fail to use a weather‐proof enclosure when installing access point the coast and in the area directly exposed to salt air.
2. It is recommended to use a weather-proof enclosure when installing access points in places relatively close to the coast.

This salt damage countermeasure standards are listed as guidelines, which vary depending on the installation environments.
These countermeasures do not necessarily guarantee the use of access points in any salt damage environments.

Take the following waterproofing measures, when access points are installed in indoor locations exposed to water or outdoors.
(for more details, please see User's Manual and Quick installation Manual.)

  • Prepare and use water-proof tape commercially available for water-proofing at the connection portions.
  • Improper waterproofing may cause water penetration resulting in a breakdown of an access point.
  • When applying waterproof tape, be sure to clean the application portion (by removing dust and dirt), then wrap the tape so that no air comes and firmly adhere the tape by pressing with fingers.

For unused LAN port and other connection portions, refer to the Operation Manual and apply proper waterproofing.
